100% mission-aligned portfolio

Established in 2012 by Jim and Krista Sorenson, the Sorenson Impact Foundation is a charitable foundation that was created to advance the flow of capital into innovative, scalable solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. A pioneer in the impact investing space, the Foundation was one of the first, and remains one of the few, foundations in the United States to move 100% of its assets into mission-aligned investments. Through philanthropic, catalytic, and market-rate strategies, the Foundation invests capital into scalable businesses and innovative initiatives that are addressing great social and environmental needs and advancing the impact investing ecosystem. Organizations in the Sorenson Impact Foundation’s portfolio are increasing access to opportunity and quality of life for people in more than 110 countries across five continents.

The Sorenson Impact Foundation deploys capital across a spectrum of tools—including grants, program-related investments, and mission-related investments—to accelerate impact and advance the field of impact investing. With variable risk and return-seeking objectives, these three tools enable the Foundation to seed and support impact innovation across the growth spectrum, while recycling and growing the assets of the foundation to enable continued investment across the impact ecosystem.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to align all of our assets with our values and impact missions. Since doing so, our portfolio performance has beat our benchmark by a wider margin than ever before. Our mission-aligned portfolio allocation has also helped us succeed when others have been negatively affected by industry failures. Most importantly, though, our investments do more than earn money—they lower carbon emissions, support diversity and inclusion efforts, accelerate education and healthcare access solutions, and build affordable housing along with so much more.
