Paul F. Brown is a Managing Director of the Sorenson Impact Center. He also holds the James Lee Sorenson Presidential Chair at the David Eccles School of Business and has a joint appointment as a professor (lecturer) in the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Department. He serves as a member of the Investment Committee of UVF2, the Eccles School’s student-run impact investing fund.
Prior to teaching, Paul was a Managing Director at Sandbox Industries in Chicago. He designed, raised the capital for and co-managed a $300M healthcare-oriented venture capital fund. He also was the founder and CEO of Sandbox’s innovation consulting practice, which connected Fortune 500 companies with strategically relevant startups. Before that, Paul was a senior executive for ten years with the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield organization, both as Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, and as Vice President of Venturing. Prior to those positions he was an associate and partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP.
Paul currently serves as a director of CleanSlate Centers, TripleCare and AMP Media Services. He is a venture partner with Apple Tree Partners, and an advisor to Advantia, Well, Inc. and Braeburn Pharmaceuticals. Paul also works as a volunteer mentor with the Village Capital and Healthbox startup accelerator programs. Previously, he served on the boards of Capson, Phreesia, PatientCo, Plan Investment Fund, Bloom Health, Nexidia, and as a board observer for Initiate Systems.
Paul holds a JD, cum laude, from the Northwestern University School of Law and dual BAs, magna cum laude, in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Utah, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
