Building the social impact field
Committed to education, convenings, and research
The Sorenson Impact Center is committed to building the impact and innovation field through education, convenings, and research. Our goal is to break down silos across sectors and equip the next generation of leaders with social purpose. We are a platform for spreading innovation in the social impact space, teaching new concepts, and spotlighting stories of impact.
Founded in 2013, the Sorenson Impact Center has established itself as a thought-leader working at the nexus of the impact investing and policy innovation space. As part of our work to further the praxis of identifying and scaling high-quality and evidence-based programs that drive impact capital to places and communities most in need, we offer unparalleled executive education sessions for a range of leaders across spectrum of industries. Our data science and impact executive education programs provide customized curriculum to meet clients where they are to work together to achieve measurement-focused change.
Our three curriculum focus areas are Data & Science Measurement, Impact Investing, and Policy Innovation. Read more about our Executive Education offerings via the button below.
Student Impact Fellows
The Impact Fellows program provides unparalleled opportunities (both paid and unpaid) for undergraduate and graduate students of all majors interested in working in the social impact space. Students develop a unique skillset that prepares them for cross-sector, cutting-edge careers.
Specifically, students have the option to work on projects within four different tracks: impact investing, data science, policy innovation, and graphic design + communications. Impact Fellows gain experience working with firms, funds, governments, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits from different sectors and regions around the world.
Impact Fellows are primarily University of Utah students; however, outstanding students from other universities are encouraged to apply. We recruit during the fall, spring, and summer semesters and require a two-semester commitment. Ideally, the Center seeks students interested in working for the remainder of their college careers.
Impact Fellows hail from various majors, backgrounds, and levels of study. Read more about our Impact Fellow offerings and academic offerings via the button below.
Sorenson Impact is housed within the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business. As such, we work to insert social impact into the academic curriculum at the University of Utah. Our focuses are on academic research, publications, and teaching in the areas of social impact and entrepreneurship within various departments and colleges across campus. Each year, the Sorenson Impact Center hosts the Winter Innovation Summit, a premier event in social impact, innovation, and investing. The Summit convenes policymakers, funders, nonprofits, and social entrepreneurs to explore the future of innovation across the globe.
The Think Tank is the Sorenson Impact Center's blog. We launched it as a place to hash out new ideas, form connections, discover different perspectives on important issues, and feature important work.
